What is the purpose of live migration?

Cockpit-machines is the upstream project for the user interface (UI) for virtual machines. Cockpit-machines is a component of the RHEL web console.

  • Administrators using the RHEL web console with cockpit-machines often manage multiple linux systems and want to share virtual machine load between those systems.

  • Administrators can move VMs between geographically different systems.

Administrators that have multiple systems in cockpit can live-migrate virtual machines between the systems if they are similar enough.

This functionality is similar to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) and Red Hat Openstack.
