What is the purpose of live migration?
Cockpit-machines is the upstream project for the user interface (UI) for virtual machines. Cockpit-machines is a component of the RHEL web console.
-
Administrators using the RHEL web console with cockpit-machines often manage multiple linux systems and want to share virtual machine load between those systems.
-
Administrators can move VMs between geographically different systems.
Administrators that have multiple systems in cockpit can live-migrate virtual machines between the systems if they are similar enough.
This functionality is similar to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) and Red Hat Openstack.
This functionality is based on virsh migrate and has the same limitations. For information on the virsh migrate command is used at Migrating a virtual machine by using the command-line interface.
